Habit #1: Master the Art of Face Washing

Believe it or not, there is a wrong way to wash your face. Our skin, delicate as it is, deserves the right kind of care. Many skincare products are far too harsh, and the misconception that frequent washing equals cleaner skin is just that – a misconception.  Overwashing can strip your skin of essential moisture, leading to dryness and irritation. Ultimately, you only need to wash your face twice a day and after sweating. Here’s a quick guide to elevate your face-washing routine.

Step 1: Wet your face with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Apply a gentle, alcohol-free cleanser using your fingertips. Stay away from washcloths and sponges that can irritate the skin.

Step 3: Rinse your skin with lukewarm water.

Step 4: Pat your skin dry with a clean towel, leaving a bit of moisture to lock in hydration when applying moisturizer.

Step 5: Apply moisturizer. In the winter, use cream-based products that provide extra hydration, and switch to lighter lotions in the summer.

Note: Always remove makeup before washing your face.

Habit #2: Wear Sunscreen, Rain or Shine

Sunscreen isn’t just for sunny days. Even on cloudy or cold days, up to 80% of UV rays can penetrate clouds, silently damaging your skin. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen daily, reapplying every two hours or sooner if swimming or sweating. Extend your protection with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and a stylish wide-brimmed hat. Look for clothing with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) label of 30 or higher for even more peace of mind. Remember, sun protection is a year-round commitment, shielding your skin from harmful UV rays, preventing skin cancer, and slowing premature aging.

Habit #3: Gym Skin Savvy

If hitting the gym is part of your resolution, don’t forget to protect your skin. Gyms are breeding grounds for germs, bacteria, and fungi. Please always wear shoes and never go barefoot in a gym. Shoes will keep you safe from Athlete’s foot and warts. Disinfect all gym equipment before use too. Don’t trust that the person before you cleaned up – wipe down that treadmill or weight bench. After your workout, shower and change into clean clothes before continuing with your day. When sweat and dirt mix, the result is unwanted acne. Regularly clean your gym bag as well, as it could be a haven for unpleasant surprises like bacteria and fecal matter.
