Biography

Victor Czerkasij (chur’ ka-see), Doctor of NP, DCNP, FNP-BC, MSN, MA, is one of the longest-serving providers with SCCDC, joining the practice in 2002. He has seen thousands of patients over the years, participating and conducting many surgeries while under the training and tutelage of Dr John Chung. Dr Czerkasij has been part of the dermatology faculty of the elite Fitzgerald Health Education Associates (FHEA), a national/international provider of Nurse Practitioner Certification Preparation and continuing education for healthcare providers since 2007. Additionally, he edits the dermatology chapter for the NP Certification and Exam textbook.

Dr. Czerkasij graduated with his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Graceland University, (Independence, MO); a Master’s of Science (MSN) in Nursing with honors from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee); a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Southern Adventist University (Collegedale, Tennessee); and an A.S. in Surgical Assisting from Keiser University (Fort Lauderdale, FL). He was the recipient of the Excellence in Writing award from Vanderbilt University for his research paper The Effects of Moderate to Severe Psoriasis on Human Sexuality. Dr. Czerkasij is a certified family nurse practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and a registered histotechnologist. He is a Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner (DCNP). He currently practices as senior provider for Skin Cancer and Cosmetic Dermatology, PC, in the Chattanooga and Cleveland, Tennessee offices, where he applies his skills diagnosing and prescribing for many patients on a full-time basis.

Dr. Czerkasij is a member of numerous organizations including the National Society of Histotechnology, the Dermatology Nurse Practitioner’s Association (DNP), the Southeast Association of Histotechnologists and Medical Lab Personnel, the Medical Reserve Corps of Southeast Tennessee, the Tennessee Nursing Association (TNA), the Georgia Nursing Association, and Sigma Theta Tau (the International Honor Society of Nursing). He has been published in and serves as an editorial board member and popular podcast speaker for the Nurse Practitioner Journal (NPJ) and reviews articles for the Journal of Nurse Practitioners (JNP) since 2008. He has additional publications in Men in Nursing, Clinician Reviews and various newspapers throughout Tennessee and Georgia. He is also the founder and one of the moderators of Dermatology Nurse Practitioners, a popular Facebook networking site with nearly 6,000 members.

Dr. Czerkasij enjoys research and is principal investigator in a ten-year study on the safety of psoriasis biologics and participates in numerous national medical advisory boards evaluating and consulting regarding the data of many FDA-approved medications, especially in atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, urticaria, and acne.

In addition to guest lectures at Southern Adventist University, Dalton State College, Cleveland State Community College, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Vanderbilt University, Dr. Czerkasij is an adjoint faculty at Vanderbilt, where he lectures to NP students in dermatology and is has developed a certification program in dermatology. Dr Czerkasij has traveled multiple times to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion, working at wound band burn care management; lectures at multiple medical universities; seeing patients through affiliated dermatology offices; and working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health to better understand and utilize the NP role.

Dr. Victor has been married for nearly 45 years to his high school sweetheart Rene, and they reside in Bradley County, Tennessee, where they have a pond to fish, bee hives, fruit trees, and koi fish. They have two grown sons – a nurse and engineer.
